HISTORY
First Steps
The University of Library Studies and Information Technologies (ULSIT) is a state university, renamed by Parliament Decree on September 29, 2010. It is the successor to the Specialized Higher School of Library Studies and Information Technologies (SHSLSIT), voted as such by the National Assembly in 2004; the State Library Institute (SLI), established in 1950; the Institute of Library Activities (ILA); the College of Library Activities (ILA) and the College of Library Studies and Information Technologies (CLSIT). The University is accredited by the National Accreditation and Evaluation Agency to provide education in bachelor, master and doctoral programmes.

Продължителността на редовното и на задочното обучение в УниБИТ в образователно-квалификационната степен „Бакалавър” е четири години. Наред със знанията по основната специалност студентите получават много добра подготовка по информационни и комуникационни технологии, по английски език, а в някои специалности – и по руски език; имат възможност за добра спортна подготовка.
Professional Development
ULSIT graduates can find employment in libraries, publishing houses, book trading companies, the state administration and the information business, information centres and services, archives departments, museums, galleries and other cultural institutions.

Publishing Activity
ULSIT is actively engaged in publishing activity for scientific production – monographs; the annual collection “Scientific Works of ULSIT”; the Cyril and Methodius “За буквите – О писменех” periodical; the scientific journal “Publisher” in cooperation with the Library Studies and Social Sciences Department of Veliko Tarnovo University; collections with Proceedings of the annually held scientific Conference on 1st November, dedicated to the Day of the leaders of the Bulgarian national revival, which is the official Patron’s Day of the University; seminar proceedings; books; learning materials, etc.

University „ERASMUS” chart
ULSIT is a holder of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), which allows students mobility on the Lifelong Learning Programme and an opportunity to be educated at different universities abroad for a certain period of time.
International Relations

ULSIT is actively involved in the international professional life and takes part in international cooperation in compliance with bi-lateral agreements with similar institutions in Russia, Germany, France, Poland, Serbia, Montenegro, Turkey, etc. ULSIT is a member of IFLA – The International Federation of Library Associations, a member of LIBER – the Association of European Research Libraries, a member of ICOM – the International Council of Museums, the National Technical Committee on Standardization in the Archive, Library, Information and Publishing Activity (TK 16), a member of the Bulgarian Library and Information Association, etc.
